Spray & Fogging Equipment

Everything on this page is Dramm, from a hand-pumped foamer to a PTO-driven TracFOG, so the decision is not between brands but between application methods. Thermal and cold foggers fill an enclosed house with fine droplets. Hydraulic sprayers put a wet, directed spray where the gun points. Spinning-disc units lay down a controlled band with very little water. Foamers hold a disinfectant on benches and walls long enough to work. ChemDose carts are built for precision dosing rather than broadcast spraying.

Match the machine to the job first, the house second and the power on site third. What follows is how to think through that decision before you request a quote.

Fogger, hydraulic sprayer, spinning disc or foamer: which one fits the job?

Start with the label and the target. A fogger treats a whole enclosed house at once. A sprayer is the tool when you need to wet one crop, drench a bench or reach the underside of a leaf.

• Thermal fog (PulsFOG K-series): a carrier solution is atomized and thrown the length of the house, from 65 feet on the K-10 to 350 feet on the K-50. Standard units are for greenhouses, the /O units are for oil-based formulations and livestock or outdoor work, and the BIO units are listed as safe for heat-sensitive products.
• Cold fog (AutoFog, Coldfogger, Turbo ULV): no heat. AutoFog units are sized by house, from the Mini at 5,000 sq ft to the Large at 30,000, more with fans running. The Coldfogger's hand-held gun projects a 30-60 micron plume 20 to 25 feet, and its 20 gallon tank is rated for up to 70,000 sq ft.
• Hydraulic spray (MSO, MS-Gas, Hydra): conventional wet spray. The MSO and MS-Gas guns adjust from a 20 foot stream to an 8 foot mist, on carts from 12 to 200 gallons with hose to 250 feet.
• Spinning disc (ULVA+, Electrafan, Microfit Herbi): low and ultra-low volume, at 5 to 20 liters per acre. The ULVA+ wants natural air movement, the Electrafan brings its own for indoor spot work, and the Herbi lances are for herbicide band spraying.
• Foam (FOAM8L, FM20, FM50, FMST): sanitation. Foam clings to vertical surfaces and persists, which is what disinfectant contact time needs.

What do the house, the power supply and the water need to be?

Foggers are rated by enclosed square footage, and the fans count as much as the fogger. The Mini AutoFog covers 5,000 sq ft alone and 7,000 with HAF fans; the Large AutoFog goes from 30,000 to 70,000 with additional fans. In a long, narrow house or with tired fans, step up a size or run two units together.

Check the power before you order. The Mini and standard AutoFog, the MSO, the Turbo ULV and the electric Hydra run on ordinary 120 volt outlets; the Large AutoFog needs 240 volt single phase. The MS-Gas and the gasoline SprayTrax and Hydra 200G need no cord, useful in a range without outlets. PulsFOG units carry their own power, 25 HP on the K-10 to 175 HP on the K-50, and need a carrier solution. TracFOG mounts on a tractor PTO. The FM-series foamers need a compressor: 5 CFM at 60 psi carries a 75 foot hose; the 3/4 inch hose needs more.

Hydraulic sprayers need clean water and agitation. Powders settle; the MSO Pro package adds a separate agitation system and gauge, the Hydra line has agitation built in, and the Aeration/Agitation Bucket keeps a 5 gallon batch in suspension, nematodes included. Hose matters too: 1/4 inch BlueFlex fits MSO and MS-Gas, 3/8 inch fits Hydra, and the Coldfogger comes with 150 feet of high pressure hose or 300. The hose-end Chemdose 2 needs no tank; it runs off a fertilizer injector or hydraulic sprayer below 75 psi.

Where do fogging and spray programs go wrong, and how do the Dramm lines differ?

Most problems we hear about are chemistry and technique, not the machine.

1. Wrong carrier in a PulsFOG. Every PulsFOG needs one. NutriFOG and VK-II mix with water and take all formulations; VK-I is for EC chemicals only and never mixed with water. NutriFOG is also a 10-3-3 foliar feed: no more than five applications a month on the same crop.
2. Heat-sensitive or oil-based product in the wrong fogger. Heat-sensitive products go in a BIO unit; oil-based formulations go in an /O unit.
3. Fogging an open house. Fog needs the vents shut and HAF fans moving air around, not out. Open a door and the rating means nothing.
4. Never checking deposit. Hydrosensitive paper turns blue where droplets land. Clip cards at canopy height, under leaves and at the far end before trusting a new machine or applicator.
5. Buying by tank size alone. Hose reach and cart maneuverability decide how much house one person treats without moving the unit; the SprayTrax turns 360 degrees inside 7 feet.

How the lines divide: AutoFog is stationary cold fog sized to a house; Coldfogger and Turbo ULV are hand-directed cold fog; PulsFOG is thermal fog with the longest throw; MSO and Hydra are wet hydraulic spray at 20 gallon and 50 to 200 gallon scale; spinning-disc units apply a few liters per acre; foamers are for sanitation between crops.
